Washington, D.C. – Senator Evan Bayh along with 12 other Senators today called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, and Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Chairman Tom Harkin to reduce the proposed fee on medical device manufacturers as the committees merge their versions of the health care reform bills.
In the letter, the Senators say that the provision would harm economic development and health care innovation nationwide. They also draw attention to the negative ramifications that a one-size-fits-all tax would have on the diverse industry. Also signing the letter were Senators Sherrod Brown, John F. Kerry, Ben Nelson, Kay Hagan, Al Franken, Paul G. Kirk, Jr., Dianne Feinstein, Debbie Stabenow, Barbara Boxer, Kirsten E. Gillibrand, Robert Menendez and Frank R. Lautenberg.
