Q: What is the Digital TV Transition?

A: On June 12th, 2009, full-power TV stations will cease broadcasting on their current analog channels and complete the transition to digital-only TV, as required by the DTV Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005. By freeing up analog airwaves, public safety departments such as police, rescue and fire squads will be able to use those channels for important communication.

Q: What do I need to do?

A: Hoosiers who own analog televisions (those with antennae or “rabbit ears”) will need digital converter boxes to watch television broadcasts after June 13th.

Televisions that already use cable or satellite will not be affected by the digital transition.

Q: How do I get a converter box?

A: Hoosiers can apply for $40 coupons to be used toward converter boxes for their personal televisions through the TV Converter Box Coupon Program. There is a limit of two coupons per household. You do NOT need to purchase a new TV to use a converter box.
